A large-scale maritime fireworks display will take place over Gwangalli Beach in Busan, April 6, as part of the city's efforts to promote its bid to host the World Expo 2030 during the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) due diligence team's visit to the southeastern port city, according to city officials, Monday.
Busan is set to attract 1 million people to the fireworks show, 300,000 more than the Busan Fireworks Festival held last Dec. 17. The display will be watched by all eight BIE inspection team members, including BIE's Administrative Director Patrick Specht and BIE Secretary General Dimitri S. Kerkentzes.
The city plans to show off Busan's capabilities and strengthened safety measures. It will operate a safety control tower at the venue and adjust measures based on hourly situation surveillance footage.
About 6,100 security workers, the largest number of any event in history, will be deployed on 16 main access roads to Gwangalli Beach. A rapid evacuation system has also been prepared with four emergency routes, and 22 ambulances will be onsite.

The fireworks show will be held from 7:30 pm to 9 pm on April 6 and will include super-large fireworks and a large text fireworks performance for World Expo 2030 Busan, plus various laser shows on Gwangan Bridge as well as multimedia fireworks, in harmony with the main event.
The theme of this show is "K-Wave" and the fireworks will be launched from 11 barges, along with super-large fireworks with a maximum plume diameter of 400 meters.
"Busan is ready to create a new world as an international city with abundant tourism resources, a global business environment and convenient transportation access," Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon said. "We will put safety first and prove the capabilities of Busan, and show 'K-Safety' to the world."
