LG is hosting a startup discovery event to support the growth of promising startups in fields such as AI, bio and clean technology, and to explore collaboration opportunities with them to create future growth engines, the group said Thursday.
LG announced that it is hosting SUPERSTART Day 2023 for two days on Thursday and Friday at LG Science Park in southwestern Seoul, which serves as the R&D hub of LG Group. The event has been held annually since 2018 to discover and support promising startups.
At this year's SUPERSTART Day, 40 startups in the fields of AI, bio, clean technology, materials, parts, equipment and lifestyle, which LG is fostering as future businesses, are participating to demonstrate their technologies and services and explore collaboration opportunities.
Participating companies included Zkrypto, which has a blockchain system technology that can prevent voter fraud, Basgenbio, a drug development platform provider based on genomic data, and Netspa, which has a technology that extracts high-purity renewable raw materials from discarded fishing nets.
Also, nine LG-supported startups have shared their achievements in collaboration with LG over the past year.
LG has collaborated with nine companies, including Ujura Company, which is developing a solution to predict diseases in dogs and cats based on animal behavior data, Limit Mobility, which provides AI solutions for transportation, including optimal logistics distribution, and Meissa Planet, known for its satellite image information analysis technology.
Featured speakers included Ikkjin Ahn, CEO of Moloco, the first Korean unicorn company in Silicon Valley, an advertising solution startup based on machine learning that is preparing to go public on the Nasdaq next year. Ahn shared his know-how on how startups can go global and discussed investment trends.
LG Science Park CEO I.P. Park said the R&D hub will "continue to discover startups that are developing innovative technologies with new ideas and actively seek ways to collaborate with them to prepare for the future."
In addition to the SUPERSTART Day event, LG will hold a developer conference on Sept. 14 and 15 at LG Science Park, where LG's researchers will share their achievements.
This year's developer conference will be held under the theme of the power of convergence, with presentation sessions in six areas including AI, big data, mobility, automotives, platform architecture, software technology development culture, cloud computing and emerging technologies. The event will also feature a keynote speech by James Gosling, the creator of the programming language Java.
