Outback Steakhouse's four new restaurants that have moved into nearby shopping mall complexes as part of its relocation strategy, saw their monthly sales jump up to 70 percent on average in 2022 from the previous year, the company said Tuesday.

Outback Steakhouse was acquired by local fried chicken franchise BHC in November 2021. Since then, the steak restaurant chain has adopted the new business plan of opening new stores mainly at large shopping mall complexes to attract more patrons.

Opening Outback Steakhouse restaurants at large shopping centers solves the parking problem often faced by customers as well as their concerns over bad weather conditions outdoors, the company said, adding that it allows customers to enjoy other activities such as shopping and watching movies at the malls after dining.

"After the company adopted its relocation strategy, Outback Steakhouse not only saw its new restaurants' revenue increase but also the customer satisfaction," an Outback Steakhouse official said.

Outback Steakhouse's new store opened at Times Stream in Seoul, last October, and saw its average monthly sales nearly double compared to other restaurants located on the streets. Times Stream is directly connected to Sillim Station on Seoul Metro Line 2.

Another branch, which moved into AK Plaza in Bundang District, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, last December, also saw its sales increase by about 40 percent more than before.

Outback Steakhouse's revenues for its new stores at Pastel City in Seoul, and at Shinsegae Department Store in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, jumped 60 percent and 85 percent, respectively, over the same period.

"We will continue to expand our restaurants at shopping mall complexes to improve the dining experience of customers while offering the best quality service," the official said.
