EV Trend Korea 2023, the country's representative eco-friendly vehicle exhibition, kicked off, Wednesday, at COEX in southern Seoul for a three-day run showcasing the latest electric vehicles (EVs) and equipment.
The exhibition marks its sixth year hosted by the Ministry of Environment, sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and co-hosted by COEX and the Korea Battery Industry Association.
The opening ceremony started with an award ceremony for the EV Awards 2023, which is the only pure EV prize given in Korea. A total of 95 companies and 441 booths have opened, including Hyundai Motor, Kia, Volvo Truck and SK Signet.
"As the purchase of eco-friendly cars increases, general consumers' interest is expanding from EVs to EV infrastructure and opportunities for firsthand experiences are growing," an official at the EV Trend Korea Organizing Committee said. "We will continue to do our best to become an exhibition where you can experience eco-friendly EVs and EV infrastructure."
At this event, Hyundai Motor and Kia organized various exhibition spaces to demonstrate their advanced EV technologies.
Hyundai Motor has prepared three exhibition spaces ― IONIQ Charging Zone, EV Lifestyle Studio and IONIQ Lifezone ― to provide opportunities to experience the latest EV charging technologies.
Kia operates three exhibition spaces ― Brand Zone, EV6 Lineup Zone and Niro Plus Taxi Theme Zone ― providing opportunities to experience the carmaker's EVs and other eco-friendly mobility services.
"This exhibition is an opportunity to communicate about the direction of Hyundai Motor Group's mobility through various EV lineups," a Hyundai Motor Group official said.
The EV6 lineup zone showcases the high-performance EV6 GT, which is the fastest vehicle in Korean history capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 260 kilometers per hour.
The IONIQ 6 won the Korea Electric Vehicle of the Year at the EV Awards 2023 selected by EV Trend Korea. The award is given to the best EV released in Korea over the past year.
The EV6 GT won the Innovative Electric Vehicle of the Year prize, which is awarded to EVs with outstanding innovative technology based on driving performance.
In addition, Volvo Truck Korea also unveiled its first electric truck, the FH Electric, with a gross weight of 40 tons, which is capable of traveling 300 kilometers on a single charge.
