What was different about latest Gaza fighting?
What was different about latest Gaza fighting?
The Gaza Strip is among the most densely populated and impoverished parts of the Middle East. It is also one of the most beleaguered places on Earth, ruled by the Islamist Hamas, crushed by an Israeli (and Egyptian) blockade, and exhausted by clashes with Israel. Geopolitical propositions for multinational firms: 5-point agenda
Geopolitical propositions for multinational firms: 5-point agenda
Geopolitics continues to influence the strategic intent of multinational enterprises (MNEs), but these firms either remain oblivious or fail to take timely cognizance. Even if they do, they tend to assess the commercial impact of an event without deciphering pertinent geopolitical risks. From Ukraine to now Taiwan, and from the China-U.S. trade war to the pandemic-induced vol...

Forgiving some sinners and castigating others
Forgiving some sinners and castigating others
I was watching an old documentary the other day about classic Hollywood stars. Henry Fonda, a man who epitomized the stalwart, decent American was the narrator, and he walked us through several decades of famous (and sometimes infamous) actors, from Charlie Chaplin to Natalie Wood.

Goodbye, Gen. Olmstead!
During my time as ambassador to the U.S., it was such an honor to meet with remarkable U.S. soldiers who fought valiantly during the Korean War, made huge sacrifices and took much pride in Korea's remarkably successful nation-building. Gen. Olmstead, who passed away on July 20, was one such soldier.
