This letter is in reply to the ginseng article in the business section on Dec. 2 Like most people, I am interested in consuming quality health foods, like ginseng. So I was very disappointed to discover that the sweetener used in Gangwha Korean Red Ginseng is high fructose corn syrup.
This form of sugar, HFCS, is the most regularly used sweetener on the planet, simply because it is the cheapest. Unfortunately, most people, who are health conscious, are also aware that HFCS is very bad for one's health, according to the vast number of studies that have been done.
It is one of the reasons many people have given up eating fast food and other questionable foods with HFCS additive, and possibly one of the reasons why so many Westerners have become obese.
I hope the makers of the Korean Red Ginseng will see the error of their ways and replace this very unhealthy sweetener with a more natural sweetener such as honey or maple syrup, if only to remain consistent in making a genuine quality health product.
