FC Seoul announced Tuesday Ki Sung-yueng, a former South Korean national team captain, has rejoined the capital football club. It said Ki completed medical testing and join the team's training soon after.
FC 서울은 전 한국 국가대표팀 주장 기성용의 재입단을 발표했다. 서울은 기성용이 건강검진을 마치고 곧 팀 훈련에 합류한다고 전했다.
The reunion comes 11 years after Ki left for Scotland, and five months after he called off talks with the club. Ki had been eager to join his old club earlier this season, but FC Seoul was not enthusiastic about acquiring him at that time.
이들의 재결합은 기성용이 스코틀랜드로 떠난 지 11년 만이자 서울 구단과의 협상을 취소한 지 5개월 만이다. 기성용은 올 시즌 초 서울에 입단하기를 바랐지만 당시 FC서울은 영입에 열의가 부족했다.
After that time, the two sides have since mended fences enough that Ki agreed to a multiyear deal.
그 후 양측은 기성용의 다년 계약에 동의할 정도로 충분히 관계를 개선했다.
Seoul said the midfielder is signed through 2023, but financial details will not be disclosed under a mutual agreement.
서울은 미드필더인 기성용과 2023년까지 계약했고, 상호 합의 하에 금전적인 계약 세부 조건은 공개하지 않는다고 밝혔다.
Ki most recently played for RCD Mallorca in La Liga, though the coronavirus pandemic limited him to just one appearance.
기성용은 최근 스페인 라리가의 RCD마요르카에서 뛰었지만 전 세계적인 코로나19 대유행으로 인해 단 한 경기에 출전했다.
Ki's first foray into international club football came with Celtic, with whom he won the 2011-2012 Scottish Premier League title.
기성용의 첫 해외 진출은 셀틱과 함께 이루어졌고, 셀틱에서 2011-2012 스코틀랜드 프리미어 리그 우승을 차지했다.
After three seasons in Scotland, Ki moved to the English Premier League and competed for Swansea City, Sunderland and Newcastle United.
그는 스코틀랜드에서 세 시즌을 보낸 후 영국 프리미어리그로 이적하여 스완지 시티, 선덜랜드, 뉴캐슬 유나이티드에서 뛰었다.
Internationally, Ki racked up 110 caps and played at three FIFA World Cups.
국가대표로 기성용은 A매치 110경기를 달성했고 세 번의 월드컵에 출전했다.
