South Korea international Kim Min-jae apologized to his club Beijing Guoan but still faces "severe" punishment over rash remarks about his teammates, Chinese media said on Wednesday.
축구 국가대표 김민재 선수가 소속 구단인 베이징 궈안에 사과했지만, 동료 선수들에 대한 경솔한 발언으로 엄중한 처벌에 직면했다고 중국언론이 수요일 보도했다.
The central defender, who was linked with Watford before moving to the Chinese Super League (CSL) last year, was at the center of controversy in China following the comment to a Korean Youtube channel.
작년 중국 슈퍼리그(CSL)로 이적하기 전 왓포드와 연결됐던 중앙 수비수인 김민재는 한국의 한 유튜브 채널에서 언급한 발언으로 중국에서 논란의 중심에 섰다.
The strapping 23-year-old, nicknamed "Monster," said that he was often "exhausted" by having to make up for the defensive deficiencies of his teammates.
'괴물'이라는 별명을 가진 23세의 이 건장한 수비수는 동료 선수들의 수비 부족을 메꿔야 해서 자주 지쳤다고 밝혔다.
Kim also said that he did not know the name of Beijing's coach, the Frenchman Bruno Genesio.
김민재는 소속팀 베이징 궈안의 프랑스 출신 감독 브루노 제네시오의 이름을 몰랐다고도 언급했다.
The remarks, which went viral on Chinese social media, were taken as a general criticism of the quality of Chinese football and were roundly condemned.
중국 소셜미디어에서 빠르게 퍼진 그의 발언들은 중국 축구의 질에 대한 비판으로 받아들여지며 대대적으로 비난받았다.
Last year's CSL runners-up Beijing contacted Kim to make clear their unhappiness and he consequently made a verbal and written apology, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
작년 중국 슈퍼리그 준우승팀인 베이징 궈안은 김민재에게 연락해 불쾌함을 전했고, 그는 말과 글로 사과했다고 베이징청년보는 보도했다.
Kim feels that he is the victim of selective editing during the recent interview, state media say, but that is unlikely to be the end of the matter.
김민재는 선택적인 편집의 희생양이라고 느끼고 있지만, 이 문제가 쉽게 끝나지 않을 것이라고 관영 매체는 전했다.
"Although he is in South Korea, Kim Min-jae understands the negative impact of this matter and realizes that he made a mistake," the state-run Youth Daily said.
관영 매체인 베이징청년보는 "한국에 머무르고 있는 김민재는 이 사안의 부정적 영향에 대해 이해하고 있고, 실수를 저질렀다는 것을 알고 있다"고 보도했다.
On the morning of May 5 (Tuesday), he sent a written apology to the club through an interpreter. "He will also speak to his teammates to resolve possible misunderstandings and is willing to accept all penalties from the club," it said.
5일 아침, 그는 통역사를 통해 구단에 사과문을 발송했다. "그는 또 혹시 모를 오해를 풀기 위해 팀 동료들과 대화할 것이며, 구단으로부터의 모든 처벌을 기꺼이 받아들일 것"이라고 설명했다.
Kim, who has 30 caps for South Korea and was reportedly on Premier League Watford's radar before moving to Beijing, will "definitely be punished severely," said the Youth Daily. (AFP)
