The long wait is over. The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup just started in Moscow on June 14, and for 32 days, the soccer world will take over Russia.

긴 기다림이 이제서야 끝났다. 21번째 월드컵이 6월 14일 모스크바에서 개막하며, 32일 동안 축구의 세상이 러시아 전역을 점령할 예정이다.

Soccer's big showpiece is played every four years and has been since 1930 with two exceptions: It was not held in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.

축구를 대표하는 이 행사는 1942년과 1946년에 제2차 세계대전으로 인하여 개최되지 않은 두 번의 예외를 제외하고 1930년부터 지금까지 4년마다 개최되었다.

The world has waited a long time to watch the World Cup, the world's biggest sporting festival. No sports fan can miss the greatest spectacle, the one that we are gifted with just once every four years.

전 세계 최대의 스포츠 축제이자 축구를 대표하는 행사인 월드컵을 시청하기 위해 전 세계는 오랜 시간 기다려왔다. 4년마다 선물로 주어지는 이 최고의 구경거리를 놓칠 스포츠팬은 어디에도 없을 것이다.

Sixty-four matches will take place in 12 venues across 11 cities while 32 teams fight for the right to be named champions of the world.

32개의 팀이 세계 챔피언으로 불리는 권리를 얻기 위해 싸우는 동안, 64개의 경기가 11개 러시아 도시의 12개 경기장에서 열린다.

There are eight groups, each containing four teams. Each group plays a round-robin tournament, with no extra time played. Three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss are awarded and the top two teams of each group will qualify for the knockout stage, a single-elimination style tournament.

4개의 팀으로 구성된 8개의 조가 있다. 각 조는 연장전이 없는 리그전으로 조별예선을 치른다. 승리에 3점, 무승부에 1점, 패배에 0점이 주어지며 상위 두 팀은 한 번의 결과로 결정되는 다음 라운드에 진출할 자격이 주어진다.

After the group stage, the round of 16 begins. Winners advance to the Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and Final; losers go home.

조별 예선 후 16강전이 시작된다. 승자는 8강, 4강, 결승에 진출하고 패자는 집에 가야 한다.

Because these are one-off matches with no replays, a tied match after 90 minutes goes to extra time, with two 15-minute halves. After that, a penalty-kick shootout is played to determine who advances.

재경기 없이 단 한 번 치르는 경기이기 때문에, 90분 이후 무승부 경기는 전후반 15분의 연장전에 돌입한다. 그 후에는 어느 팀이 올라갈지를 정하기 위한 승부차기가 시작된다.

The interesting fact is that the three recent world cup finals all went into extra time. Match result predictions are starting to surface and everyone started to talk about who will win at the Final. The world's spotlight will be on the final which will take place at the 81,000-capacity Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday, July 15.

흥미로운 사실은 최근 세 번의 월드컵 결승전이 모두 연장전을 치렀다는 점이다. 경기 결과 예측이 나오기 시작했고, 모두들 누가 결승에서 이길지를 이야기하기 시작했다. 7월 15일 일요일, 81,000명을 수용하는 루즈니키 경기장에서 열리는 결승전에 전 세계의 이목이 쏠릴 것이다.
