Huneed Technologies Chairman Kim Eugene has been recognized for his efforts in developing Korea's defense industry.
The Korea Association of Defense Industry Studies awarded him the "Pride of Korea" Defense Industry Achievement Award on Oct. 28. Kim is also chairman of the Korea Defense Industries Association.
The award honors those who have contributed to the development of the defense industry or defense-related academics and technology.
Kim was awarded based on Huneed's contributions to the local defense industry, the association said. He was acknowledged for improving Korea's national defense capabilities through research and development of tactical communications systems and command and control system equipment using in-house technology over the last 20 years.
Under Kim's leadership, Huneed developed its High Capacity Trunk Radio System, which serves as the wireless communication backbone of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces' latest generational Tactical Information and Communication Network enabling operations in a connected battlefield.
Kim was also recognized for his efforts to introduce advanced processes from global defense companies with the aim of strengthening the Korean defense industry's competitiveness.
Huneed has aggressively invested in global aerospace and defense original equipment manufacturing processes and methodologies. Huneed takes pride in its end-to-end, in-house production, by which it supplies cost-competitive aerospace parts to its customers in the global market. All branches of the U.S. military and Armed Forces of six countries fly with Huneed-built parts.
In addition, Kim has contributed to the local defense industry by expanding the export market for defense projects as the chief of the Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association.
Kim also created a training program at local specialized high schools to foster professional workers for the aviation industry.
"I am deeply grateful to win such a meaningful award. We will continue to do our best to develop the domestic defense industry and expand exports of defense projects in the global market," Kim was quoted as saying.
