K-pop artist Choi Yena's agency, Yuehua Entertainment, has spoken about the singer's controversial music video, "Hate Rodrigo," which references U.S. pop star Olivia Rodrigo.
"We have discovered that the following music video might contain grounds that may have infringed trademark and portrait rights, and copyrights in some scenes. So we made the video private on the 29th (of June) and are in the process of making necessary edits to the video," the agency said in the statement, Saturday.
"It took us time to realize it. So we apologize for causing confusion without releasing prior notice. We will promptly upload the music video as soon as we complete the editing."
The song, which was released on June 27, came under scrutiny the title of it containing the pop star's last name and a music video comprising images and impressions of Rodrigo.
Choi said that the song was intending to pay homage to the pop star, saying the song uses irony to express the admiration and jealousy she feels toward the person she admires.
On the other hand, the agency denied previous reports that Rodrigo requested the agency to take down the music video.
"It is not true that we switched the video to private due to a request from Olivia Rodrigo, so we are correcting this information. Our company has never received such a request," it said.
