A crop of female solo artists will join in the heated K-pop chart competition in August. Included in the lineup are Kwon Eun-bi and Jo Yu-ri, both former members of the now-defunct project girl group IZ*ONE.
Kwon, who recently made headlines for her performance at the Waterbomb Seoul music festival, will put out her new EP, "The Flash," Aug. 2.
According to her management company Woollim Entertainment, it will be fronted by the lead single of the same name ― a pop dance track reinterpreting the tale of Persephone in ancient Greek mythology. Persphone becomes the queen of the underworld after being abducted by her uncle Hades, the king of the underworld who forces her to be his wife.
"We gave a modern twist to the lyrics of 'The Flash,'" Woollim explained in a statement. "The song will also highlight Kwon's energetic voice and performance."
"The Flash" EP will carry two other tunes: "Comet" and "Beautiful Night." Kwon participated in penning the lyrics for the latter.
Five days after Kwon's release, Jeon So-mi will pick up the baton and release the digital version of her new EP, "Game Plan." The physical edition will hit store shelves on Aug. 14.
Leading the EP is "Fast Forward," says Jeon's agency, The Black Label. The company's co-founder and producer Teddy Park ― who has worked with numerous K-pop bigwigs including BLACKPINK ― composed the song in cooperation with other acclaimed producers.
"Game Plan" will also offer four other tracks including "Pisces" and "The Way."
"Jeon took part in the creative process of the EP," The Black Label said. "The upcoming release also features her self-written tracks, which demonstrate her talent as a singer-songwriter."

Singer Jo Yu-ri's new album, "Love All" ― which sheds light on various emotions stemming from love ― will arrive on Aug. 9.
"The album will capture all moments of love," her agency WAKEONE Entertainment said. "Jo, who made her solo debut with the track 'Glassy' in 2021, will unfold her untold story this time."
The title track of the album is "Taxi," but details about the tune has been kept under wraps.
On Aug. 23, Yerin, an ex-member of K-pop act GFriend, is poised to roll out her second mini-album, "Ready, Set, LOVE." It has taken about a year for the 26-year-old to bring something new to the table following the release of her debut solo EP, "Aria" in 2022.
"Yerin will bring her vocal prowess, crystal-clear voice and positive energy to the fore," her record label, Bill Entertainment said.
More details about the EP will be disclosed in due course.
