Jungkook of K-pop behemoth BTS is taking the global music charts by storm with his solo release, "Seven."
"Seven," an addictive summer anthem sprinkled with the 1990s U.K. garage rhythms, debuted at No. 1 on the Daily Song Top Global chart of Spotify, July 14. According to the world's largest streaming platform, "Seven" reached 15,995,378 streams ― the highest-ever number for any new song to enter the aforementioned chart.
The three versions of the tune ― the clean, explicit and instrumental ― all secured the top spots on Japan's Oricon chart upon their releases as well, taking first, second and fourth place, respectively. The clean version garnered 17,142 downloads.
"Seven," featuring American rapper Latto, also reigned atop iTunes Top Song chart in 106 countries including the U.S., Canada and Germany. It ranked first on Melon, a major music streaming platform in Korea, only 11 hours after its release, leading Jungkook to set a new record as a male solo artist.
"As soon as I heard 'Seven,' I felt that I must take it," Jungkook said through his management company, Big Hit Music. "'Seven' is of a genre that I have never taken on before, so I could learn a lot of different things as I prepared for its release."
Jungkook premiered "Seven" at the Good Morning America (GMA) Summer Concert Series, July 14. He is the sixth BTS member to make an official solo debut, following j-hope, Jin, RM, Jimin and Suga.
